Google Classroom Is on Our Doorstep

Well I'm happy to announce that Google Classroom will be ready to launch before September.  We were just notified last evening that it will be ready within the next week to launch within our Google Apps for Education domain.  At this point I'm certain that we will be piloting it at the middle school, but am unsure when we will be piloting it anywhere else in the district.

If you haven't heard of Google Classroom yet, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what it has to offer.  This new service will give teachers the ability to easily manage the sharing, editing, completion of Google Docs with students.  The two greatest features of Google Classroom are the ability for the teacher to create their own classes and have the students be in charge of joining that class with a code and the ability for a teacher to share a document with students that is unique to the student and already shared between teacher/student.  This will greatly reduce the amount of time you spend setting-up and maintaining Google Drive in your classroom throughout the year.

  1. Hi Scott,

Nice job on the overview. I was wondering if it is possible to attach a rubric using Goobric to a Google doc before you assign the document through Google Classroom?? That would allow us to "grade" the assignment. Also, any chance you can do a video showing how to use Doctopus and Goobric together? I need a refresher! Cindy.

  2. Unfortunately, you cannot use Goobric without using relies on the other. For a refresher/run-through of the new Doctopus and Goobric via Add-ons, please view the video tutorials:
