BYOD Thought for the Day

Jason Markey, a student from Leyden High School, made a very profound statement about it being okay for both teachers and students to fail using technology in the classroom in a blog article titled "What Can You Expect When Moving Learning to the Web?"  We all know it is inevitable...we need to remember that it is's what he said.

"Teachers will try some things that work, and they’ll try some things that crash and burn. It’s all part of the learning process, and that needs to be OK. I certainly hope that our teachers will make the connection that this is how learning happens for students, too. We all need the space to be able to try things and fail."

  1. I have to say that when I embraced this idea as a teacher that I didn't have to have all the answers for my students that I was able to learn so much more. So much of the technology I now use and am comfortable using in class is because the original idea I had failed (and sometimes miserably) that it allowed me to go back and figure out why and solve the problem. We ask our students to be problem solvers and I think we have to show our students that we are too and then we can both learn from it.
